Energy Saving Tips

Energy Efficiency has become, over the course of the last decade, an issue of great importance. Improving Energy Efficiency is particularly important in relation to residential housing, which is contributing to increases in the UK’s energy usage, indeed domestic energy consumption increased by 19% between 1990 and 2000.

There are a number of measures, in which you can participate, to reduce the detrimental effect your house has on the environment and save money, which, will otherwise be squandered, radiating heat into the atmosphere.

Most measures will involve an initial outlay of money but will more than pay for themselves in the reduced energy bills they will result in.

Reducing Heat loss

  • Get your roof coated by Aquashield.  Using its energy saving technology Aquatherm, our roof coating, will not onlt reduce heat loss during the winter, but will also help your house maintain a cool temperature during the summer.
  • Cavity Wall insulation, a basic step and many houses already have some form of wall insulation, but a government run website has found that “Most UK homes don’t have the recommended amount of insulation.”
  • Makes sure windows are maintained well, broken sealant round the frame will result in draughts; which cause air to leak in and out of the house.

Reducing Energy Waste

  • Buy an energy-tracking meter; these compute your houses energy consumption allowing any areas where energy savings can be made, visible and easy to understand.
  • Standby – Turning electrical appliances off standby mode is obvious energy saving tip, it is also possible to put a timer on some appliances, like internet routers – if using a wireless laptop it is easy to forget to turn off the wireless router after use at night.
  • Try not to use Halogen and Traditional light bulbs; they waste energy (as well as emitting light they emit proportionately large quantities of heat). Low energy bulbs are a superior, cost effective alternative.
